Every few months the question changes shape. It used to be "which AI draws the prettiest picture?" Now it is "which platform can make me an image, a five-second clip, a voiceover and a thumbnail without four separate subscriptions?" We ran the twelve most talked-about generation platforms through the same evaluation: what they produce, which models they expose, what they actually charge per generation, and where the workflow features matter.

One structural fact explains most of the pricing noise: nearly every platform here is a reseller. The models themselves come from OpenAI (GPT Image 2), Google (Veo, Lyria), ByteDance (Seedance, Seedream), Kuaishou (Kling), Black Forest Labs (Flux) and ElevenLabs (voice and music). The same Seedance clip can cost wildly different amounts depending on which platform's credit table you are standing under. Prices below are USD, annual billing where offered, checked against official pricing pages in late May 2026.

What a generation actually costs

Video is where the spread gets absurd, because video models burn credits at an order of magnitude above image models. We ran identical prompts on May 14, 2026 across three platforms at their top personal plans, annual rates:
| Model and settings | OpenArt Wonder ($120/mo) | Higgsfield Ultra ($99/mo) | Magnific Pro ($174/mo) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.0, 720p, 5s, standard | $0.45 | $0.76 (promo) | $0.98 |
| Kling 3.0, 720p, 5s, no audio | $0.14 | $0.29 (promo) | $0.25 |
| Veo 3.1 Standard, 720p, 4s | $0.32 | $0.96 | $0.56 |
| Veo 3.1 Lite, 720p, 4s | $0.09 | $0.20 (promo) | $0.60 |
Three caveats worth internalizing. Higgsfield runs a permanent-looking 30% credit promo shown as a strikethrough in its interface, so its real numbers move with the campaign. Cheaper plans cost more per generation: the same Seedance clip runs about $0.70 on OpenArt's $7 tier versus $0.45 on the $120 tier. And images vary too — a 2K GPT Image 2 or Nano Banana 2 picture measured $0.034 to $0.30 across platforms at their best plans.
The twelve platforms, briefly
OpenArt — the widest single workspace: images, video, audio and, unusually, characters as a top-level category. Model list spans GPT Image 2, Nano Banana 2, Seedream 4.5/5.0, Recraft V4, plus Seedance 2.0, Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 Omni, Wan 2.7 and Sora 2 Fast for video. ElevenLabs voice, music, SFX and cloning round it out. Free credits, a $7 entry plan, and the lowest tested per-clip costs. The Character workspace holds roughly 350 saved characters on the top tier.
Magnific — renamed from Freepik in early 2026. Its pitch is generation plus a 250-million-asset library of stock photos, video, vectors and PSDs. Credits last a year instead of expiring monthly, which quietly beats most monthly-reset plans. Node-based Spaces canvas for chaining workflows. No free tier; billed in euros.
ImagineArt — production-oriented, with dedicated Film Studio and Ad Studio modes. The Creator tier ($175) includes unlimited generation on several headline models including Seedance 2 Fast and GPT Image 2. Free trial available; frequent discounts on the top tier.
Higgsfield — video-first with viral presets, an agent called Supercomputer, and the Soul V2 photo model for aesthetic control. Lists 200+ models. Voice only, no music generation. Ultra includes 365-day unlimited access on several image models. Annual billing at roughly 70% of list.
Krea — the real-time canvas crowd-pleaser, 10M+ users claimed. Own model (Krea 2) beside 64 external ones, LoRA fine-tuning with up to 50 reference images, 22K upscaling. Lip-sync but no native voice or music. Promo unlimited generation on Krea 2 and Seedance at higher tiers.
Invideo — built for finished videos, not clips: one prompt can produce up to 30 minutes, with iStock and Storyblocks integration and 200+ models under the hood. Pricing climbs steeply ($17 to $900) and credits do not roll over.
Artlist — the stock-music company's AI play. Generation sits beside a licensed library of tracks, stems, SFX and LUTs, which makes it attractive for commercial video work. AI Studio handles casting, scene building and shot consistency. Shared credit pool across all AI products.
Luma — one of the few with serious in-house video models (Ray3.14, Uni-1) alongside external Veo, Kling and Seedance. Team workspaces, speech-to-prompt, EXR export and a "Creative Agents" framework target studio pipelines. No free tier.
Leonardo.Ai — image and video, no audio. Own models (Phoenix, Lucid Origin) plus Veo 3 and Nano Banana Pro. SOC 2 certified, big tutorial library, generous daily free tokens. Unlimited relaxed generation on its own models at upper tiers.
Recraft — the vector one. Recraft V4.1 outputs true scalable graphics — logos, icons, type — which no diffusion rival does cleanly. Its style-lock system takes reference images without LoRA training. Video arrives only at the Pro tier via external models.
NightCafe — community-driven since 2019. Daily challenges, chatrooms, creation streaks. More hobby social network than production tool, but the $7.49 entry and unlimited generation on curated model sets at higher tiers keep it relevant for casual creators.
Civitai — the marketplace for open-weights files: LoRAs, embeddings, community checkpoints, with on-site generation paid in "Buzz." Unmatched breadth if you want the long tail of fine-tuned models rather than official APIs.
Matching tools to workflows
Everything in one workspace: OpenArt, Magnific, ImagineArt, Invideo, Artlist and Luma all cover image, video and audio natively. The other six skip or gate at least one.
Cheapest video at volume: OpenArt Wonder led our cost tests on Seedance 2.0, Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1, with Magnific Pro and Higgsfield Ultra behind it.
Character consistency: OpenArt characters, ImagineArt Personalize, Higgsfield Soul V2, Krea LoRAs. For series work this matters more than raw quality.
Thumbnails and text-heavy marketing: Nano Banana Pro and GPT Image 2 are the models people reach for; several platforms wrap dedicated thumbnail and logo generators on top.
Product photography: Seedream 5.0 Lite and GPT Image 2 for lighting and background control.
Logos and scalable graphics: Recraft, full stop.
Open-source model files: Civitai.
Questions people ask before paying
Which is best for video? Veo 3.1 and Seedance 2.0 are the two names of 2026, both generating synchronized audio in one pass. Eight of the twelve carry both; you are choosing on price, editing tools and consistency features, not model access.
Is there a real free option? OpenArt, ImagineArt, Higgsfield, Krea, Leonardo, Recraft, NightCafe and Civitai all give you something free to touch. Magnific, Artlist and Luma do not.
Can I use output commercially? On paid plans, yes at most platforms here. Commercial-use seats range from about $17.50 to $200 per month depending on the vendor and team size.
Why does every tool rename its currency? Credits, tokens, units, Buzz — the labels differ, the mechanic is identical: each generation deducts a model-dependent amount. The per-generation dollar table above is the only honest way to compare.
Where this lands
Generation quality is converging; pricing structures and workflow fit are not. The platform with the cheapest headline plan can be the most expensive per clip, and the one with every model may still make you export to three other apps to finish a project. Decide what you actually ship each week — clips, campaigns, characters, vectors — then pick the tool that keeps that loop inside one workspace. If your work spans formats and volume matters, the all-in-one platforms with rollover or annual credits are quietly winning the cost math. If you live in one lane, the specialists still do it better.
